About North West 200 Festival
Ireland’s biggest Sporting Spectacular

Since its origins in 1929, the Kennedy International North West 200 has become Ireland’s largest outdoor sporting event, attracting crowds in excess of 150,000 as well as the biggest names in the sport including Michael Rutter, Steve Plater, Bruce Anstey, John McGuinness, Cameron Donald and Ian Hutchinson.

Taking place on Saturday 17th May 2008, the North West 200 circuit runs between the towns of Portrush, Portstewart and Coleraine – an area of outstanding natural beauty and home to the world famous Giant’s Causeway. The triangle course is one of the fastest in the world. In 2005, Michael Rutter broke the record for the fastest speed in the history of the event with 201.1mph.

The International North West 200 is an event not to be missed. A great day out for all the family and one of road racing’s leading events, the North West 200 offers something for everyone.

Race Festival Week is packed full of amazing events and exhibitions coordinated by Coleraine Borough Council and the NW200 race organisers and kicks off on Sunday 11th May with a sponsored run and walk for NW200’s charity for 2008, the NI Hospice. Key events also include; a charity golf day at the prestigious Royal Portrush Golf Club, Ballymoney’s Legends of Road Racing, Vintage Bike displays, stunt shows and live music and entertainment in the hospitality marquee.

There’s even a Miss North West 200 beauty contest on Tuesday 13th May when two girls will win a place in the Junction One Miss Northern Ireland Gala Final held later in June!

As the riders gear up for the big day on 17th May, two official Practice Nights on Tuesday 13th and Thursday 15th May give newcomers and seasoned competitors alike the opportunity to test out their bikes and all Race Week Festival events attract

A huge fireworks display at Portstewart late on the Friday evening gets visitors into the mood for Saturday 17th. Whilst on Race Day morning a stunning Air Display coincides with official road closing at 10am with the first race of the day, the 250cc starting at 11am.
